Science and Technology Research
& Development
The science and technology
R&D area of JHU/APL Technology Transfer for Space Applications (TTSA)
Initiative augments transition of technology by offering the space industry,
under certain conditions, access to APL research and development resources.
The purpose is to assist in the application of licensed APL-developed
technology into a company's product and to facilitate their understanding
of challenges of new, emerging dual-use technologies and scientific problems.
Besides Science and Technology Research & Development, the major thrust
areas of JHU/APL's TTSA include Transition of
Technology and Facilities and Testing (Portions
of these facilities are owned by the U.S. government and some restrictions
on their use may apply).
APL is applying its R&D
expertise in leading-edge, dual-use technologies to address a full range
of advanced technology
space applications. Some of the current R&D activities include:
- Communications systems
- GPS navigation systems (GNS)
including technology enabling spacecraft formation flying
- Remote sensing systems
- Space systems engineering
- Software engineering.
